Changing house code settings

Setting the house code links your remote to your system for reliable control. The house code is adjustable to avoid interference in situations where another device unexpectedly controls your system.

To change the House Code:

  1. Power off your system
  2. On the back of the remote control, remove the battery cover
  3. Above the battery compartment, use a small utensil (i.e. paperclip or pen) to change the positions of the first four switches. These switches determine the House Code of the system
  4. Replace the battery cover
  5. On the system console, press and hold the Enter button. "House Code" will appear on the console display with four squares indicating the current House Code
Note: If "House #" and six squares appear, MDU mode is enabled. For more info, see Setting MDU mode.
  6. While holding the Enter button, press any button on the remote. "New House Code" will appear and the four squares will change to reflect the new House Code
  7. Release the Enter button
Note: If you have more than one remote for your system, match the House Code switch positions on all remotes to the new setting.

To change the expansion remote house code setting, follow these steps:

Determine the house code of the system:
  1. Turn the Lifestyle system off
  2. Lift the front panel cover on the media center
  3. Press and hold the Enter button. The words "House Code" followed by four squares will appear in the display. If "House #" followed by six squares appears, Setting MDU mode is enabled.
  4. Record the position of the squares which indicates the house code setting. The default house code setting is all squares in the down position
Determine the model number of the remote being used by looking at the model number on the back of the remote and change the house code of the expansion remote to match the system:
  1. If the expansion remote is an RC18S2:
    1. Remove the battery cover from the back of the remote and locate the nine switches above the battery compartment
    2. Change the position of switches 1, 2, 3 and 4 using a push pin, paper clip or pen to match the position of the squares shown on the media center display
    3. The settings of switches 5 through 9 depend on the expansion product that is connected to the media center
    4. Replace the battery cover
    5. Verify the remote works
  2. If the expansion remote is an RC48S2 (Personal Music Center II):
    1. Press the Setup button on the PMCII
    2. Tip the center button down until "House Code" is selected
    3. Press the center button in
    4. Tip the center button up or down until the positions of the four lines match the positions of four squares that were shown on the media center display
    5. When the matching code is highlighted, press the center button in
    6. Press Setup to leave the menu
    7. Verify the remote works
