Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Everyday Speaker on the Boat, Beach or Patio I picked this up about five weeks ago, and honestly—I love this speaker. So does my wife. It’s quickly become our go-to for everything from morning routines to boat days and backyard hangs. And trust me, that’s saying something. We already have TVs with soundbars, computer speakers, a vinyl setup with dedicated speakers, surround sound in the living room, and a portable speaker that usually follows us around the bedroom, garage, or patio. My wife has teased me for years about having “too many” speakers—but even she admits this one’s started replacing most of them. What makes it stand out? It’s beefy and punches (dude way to describe it guess)—in the best way. It’s got a little physical weight to it, sure, but I’m really talking about the sound output. There’s a noticeable depth in the bass, strength in mids, and clarity in the highs that you don’t usually get from portable gear. It can absolutely fill a room, and outdoors it holds its own just as well. You can also tweak the highs/mids/lows to your music or liking, which I tend to do depending on the mood or playlist. Whether it’s acoustic rock or a 90s hip hop throwback, it sounds really strong and the “audiophile” in hates to say this but it sounds great just pushing them all to 10 and letting it go. You can clip it to a bag, but expect it to hang off the side or sit best when attached to a MOLLE-style strap or loop—it’s not ultralight, but kinda the point on this one I guess. I had to jigger it a bit on my day to day bag and ended up just shoving it inside for my one of my bags that didn’t have a good molle situation I could strap in. I’m a scuba diver and brought it on two dive boats. In both cases, the captain ended up using this speaker instead of their own system, broadcasting music from the captain’s nest to the entire deck. I didn’t test whether it floats—didn’t want to risk it—but I held it soaking wet and poured water over it while it was playing, and it had zero issues. Still jammed out without any problems. After diving, I clipped it to my soaked gear bag, walked off the boat, and kept the music going all the way to the car. That’s not something I’d trust most gear with at this price point. It was such a great little vibe as I had this really great jam session and it was really covered in salt water in a wet bag. It was a cool demonstration of what makes it a solid device. ⸻ Pros • Full, rich sound with great clarity and real bass • Adjustable highs/mids/lows to match your music style • Rugged and waterproof—genuinely outdoor-ready • Can sync with other SoundLink speakers if you have them • Solid build that feels premium and reliable Cons • A bit heavy (but worth it for the quality) • Bigger than many portables—more of a block than a pocket speaker • Picks up light scuffs on the exterior (adds character IMO, but some may care) • The rope loop is thick—standard carabiners don’t fit, so I had to rig a custom clip ⸻ If you want a speaker that actually feels like it’s built to be used—anywhere, any time—with sound that punches above its weight, this one’s been a fantastic pickup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent sound quality for the portability I do a lot of art with various mediums, and having a quality portable speaker is a must because my hands are usually messy and taking headphones on and off while you have soldering flux gel or ceramics glazes all over your hands is a no-go. I've had portable speakers over the years, even one from bose, and this is my favorite one by far. My husband steals this all the time for his garage workouts, he loves it too. The speaker is loud and powerful enough to combat his feral weightlifting grunts and the weights hitting the ground when he drops the bar like an animal (eye roll) after hitting a tough life. If he ever accidentally drops the bar on the speaker I'll be sure to update this review on whether it survived. PROS -sound, sound, sound. This is honestly the best sound I've ever experienced out of a portable speaker. The depth and clarity of the audio is almost as good as over-the-ear headphones, there is that much detail and crispness to the sound. It was honestly surprising; I never assume I'm getting the best sound quality from a portable speaker, because that's one of the concessions you make. I've owned countless portable speakers over the years, and none even came close to this. -ease of use. The product was super easy to connect out of the box, and was easy to pair to multiple devices. My husband and I both connected our phones and use the speaker seamlessly. -battery life. I actually used this speaker for an 11 hour drive in a company car that had a busted stereo, and the battery only depleted maybe 50% that whole ride. I tested it and the speaker also charges via USB hooked up to the car, so it seems easy to charge on the go. And it sounded great in the car. -portability. I like how compact it is for the sound you get, and I love the carrying loop - it feels very sturdy and substantial. It's very easy to pick up with one hand by the loop. CONS -weight/size. This lil baby is definitely a chonker in terms of a portable speaker. Not an issue for me moving around to workspaces or my home gym, but it's not going to be the easiest thing to throw in your bag for a picnic at the end of a hike. What you get in sound and battery life more than justifies the size/weight, but if you're looking for something small to have on your person a lot, this is probably not the thing. -suuuuuuper bassy by default. This thing has the bass WAY boosted in the default settings. I know lots of people love a really bassy sound, but I do NOT like that, and it's annoying to me that I need to manually adjust the settings to get a "normal" sound. I'm talking so bassy that I tried listening to a podcast with the default settings, and the podcast host's voice was insanely bassy/booming. Overall I definitely recommend this speaker.

FAQs

Can SoundLink Plus be used for phone calls?

No. There are no microphones in the SoundLink Plus.

Can I wirelessly link a SoundLink Plus Speaker with other Bose speakers?

Yes. SoundLink Plus can link with other compatible Bose speakers that have a shortcut button. There are two listening options when a SoundLink Plus Speaker is linked with another Bose speaker:

  • Party Mode
  • Stereo Mode (only available when both speakers are SoundLink Plus)

What is Party Mode and how does it work?

Party Mode lets you connect two Bose Bluetooth speakers to play audio in perfect sync. This feature requires two Bose Bluetooth speakers with a shortcut button (may be a combination) from the following list: SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen), SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen), SoundLink Plus or SoundLink Max. When using two different speaker models, the only option available may be Party Mode. Party Mode can be initiated via product controls. The volume of the speakers can be controlled independently.

Note: You can only link to one other speaker at a time.

What is Stereo Mode and how does it work?

Stereo Mode allows you to unlock a stereo audio experience where the left and right speakers play separately. To use Stereo Mode with a SoundLink Plus Speaker, a second SoundLink Plus is required. When connecting two SoundLink Plus speakers via the shortcut button, Stereo Mode will be the default. You can switch between Stereo Mode and Party Mode via the press of the shortcut button on one product or in the Bose app via the toggle.

What are Shortcuts?

Shortcuts are managed through the Bose app. Shortcuts allow you to configure settings for the programmable shortcut button on SoundLink Plus. When your SoundLink Plus is new, the factory default shortcut is set to linking, allowing you to use the button to link together two Bose speakers with a shortcut button.

What options do I have for my programmable shortcuts?

You can change your shortcut button to be connected to your Spotify account and begin playing music at the press of a button, access your voice assistant, or access other options that may become available with future firmware updates through the Bose app.

How do I clear the pairing list on my SoundLink Plus?

SoundLink Plus can have up to six paired devices in its memory. To clear the paired devices list, turn on the speaker and press and hold the Bluetooth button for 15 seconds. You can also remove paired devices in the Bose app from the product settings.

Does SoundLink Plus float in water?

Yes. SoundLink Plus floats but is not designed to be used while in water. SoundLink Plus is designed to withstand accidental drops in water for up to 30 minutes. If SoundLink Plus is directly exposed to salt or chlorinated water, rinse with fresh water and allow it to dry thoroughly before use.

Two things to keep in mind when the speaker gets submerged:

  • If the product is playing when it gets submerged (e.g., you drop it in a pool), the Bluetooth connectivity will be lost almost immediately. It’s possible that the product will reconnect automatically to the Bluetooth device it was connected to when you pull it out of the water, but it’s not a guarantee.
  • If the product is completely saturated with water, the audio may sound crackled or distorted at first. It will eventually clear itself either with shaking it, blowing on it, or playing audio at a loud enough level.

What Bluetooth profiles does SoundLink Plus support?

The Bose SoundLink Plus Portable Speaker supports Bluetooth profiles A2DP, AVRCP, SPP, iAP and BLE.

Can I charge other devices from SoundLink Plus?

Yes. You can charge other devices using the SoundLink Plus USB-C charge-out feature. SoundLink Plus supports charging out at 15W (5V/3A), which will charge typical mobile phone and tablet devices. Larger devices, such as laptops and power banks, may not charge due to their power input requirements. Please consult the device manual to understand if your device can charge from a 15W USB-C supply.

Is the SoundLink Plus Speaker’s utility loop user-replaceable?

While the loop is designed for durability, in the event that it is damaged, please contact us for support.

What is the best way to clean SoundLink Plus?

If debris gets into the charging port or other parts of SoundLink Plus, gently rinse with fresh water or use compressed air. Be sure charging ports are thoroughly dry before charging. For the larger exterior surfaces, wipe clean with a soft cloth. Avoid using cleaning detergents and let SoundLink Plus dry before operating.
